The Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA) aims to improve technical knowledge in risk-based decision-making related to land contamination applications and enhance the professional status and profile of practitioners. We are excited this year to be launching our accreditation scheme which recognises individuals’ competence in risk assessment. We assist in the development of future guidance, identify and fund future research areas, support technical excellence in the assessment, estimation and evaluation of risks and uncertainty from land affected by contaminants, encourage best practice in risk-based decision making and form relationships with other organisations and professional bodies involved in land contamination and remediation. We do this by holding a summer workshop focussed on a specific topic area, this year it is ‘Redevelopment of Landfills’, a Christmas conference covering a wide topic range and importantly through our volunteer sub-groups who champion key development areas supported by the volunteer executive committee.
